"IJAIR is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access."

Why Open Access?

Funders invest in research in order to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery, encourage innovation, enrich education, and stimulate the economy – to improve the public good. They recognize that broad access to the results of research is an essential component of the research process itself. Research advances only through sharing of results, and the value of an investment in research is only maximized through wide use of its results.

Yet, too often, research results are not available to the broadest community of potential users. The Internet provides a new opportunity to bring information to a wider audience at virtually no marginal cost, and allow them to use it in new, innovative ways. This has resulted in a call for new framework to allow research results to be more easily accessed and used—a call for Open Access.

What is Open Access?

By Open Access, we mean the free, immediate, availability on the public Internet of those works which scholars give to the world without expectation of payment – permitting any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full text of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software or use them for any other lawful purpose.

Who Benefits from Open Access?

“Open access truly expands shared knowledge across scientific fields — it is the best path for accelerating multi-disciplinary breakthroughs in research.”

Open Letter to the US Congress signed by Nobel Prize winners

Researchers

  • Increases readers’ ability to find use relevant literature
  • Increases the visibility, readership and impact of author’s works
  • Creates new avenues for discovery in digital environment
  • Enhances interdisciplinary research
  • Accelerates the pace of research, discovery and innovation

Educational Institutions

  • Contributes to core mission of advancing knowledge
  • Democratizes access across all institutions – regardless of size or budget
  • Provides previously unattainable access to community, colleges, others
  • Provides access to crucial STEM materials
  • Increases competitiveness of academic institutions
  • Students
  • Enriches the quality of their education
  • Ensures access to all that students need to know, rather what they (or their school) can afford
  • Contributes to a better-educated workforce

Research Funders

  • Leverages return on research investment
  • Creates tool to manage research portfolio
  • Avoids funding duplicative research
  • Creates transparency
  • Encourages greater interaction with results of funded research

Businesses

  • Access to cutting-edge research encourages innovation
  • Stimulates new ideas, new services, new products
  • Creates new opportunities for job creation

Public

  • Provides access to previously unavailable materials relating to health, energy, environment, and other areas of broad interest
  • Creates better educated populace
  • Encourages support of scientific enterprise and engagement in citizen science

Why start with public access?

“Governments would boost innovation and get a better return on their investment in publicly funded research by making research findings more widely available… And by doing so, they would maximize social returns on public investments.”
–Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development
Widespread access to publicly funded research results is an essential, inseparable component of our nation’s investment in science.

Results of publicly funded research should be shared in cost-effective ways in order to stimulate discovery and innovation, and advance the translation of this knowledge into public benefits Enhanced access to and expanded sharing of information will lead to usage by millions of scientists, professionals, and individuals, and will deliver an accelerated return on the public’s investment in this research.

At TimeLine Journals, we understand that some institutions may have limited funding for their research activities. Thus, we have instituted a generous waiver system that may ease the payment of the manuscript handling fee when their researchers choose to publish their manuscripts in any of our journals. Our primary goal as stated in our mission is to accelerate the dissemination of knowledge through the publication of high quality research articles. We are continually pursuing this goal, without putting undue financial burden on researchers or their institutions. Hence, we have instituted the following waiver policy.

Authors from Low Income Countries may be granted up to 75% waiver.

In addition, it is also not unusual for authors to be granted full waivers, especially authors from low income countries.

To request a waiver, kindly send an application on concern journal email. Waiver application should contain the manuscript number and state the reason for requesting a waiver.

About our licence to publish

In order to publish material the Timeline Publication and its Journals must acquire the necessary legal rights from the author(s) of that material. In general, we must obtain from the original author(s) the right to publish the material in all formats, in all media (including specifically print and electronic), with the right to sublicense those rights.

For all articles published in our journals, we require the author to accept a 'licence to publish'. This licence is normally requested after their article is accepted for publication. By signing this licence the author (who is either the copyright owner or who is authorised to sign on behalf of the copyright owner, for example his/her employer) grants to the Timeline Publication and its Journals "the exclusive right and licence throughout the world to edit, adapt, translate, reproduce and publish the manuscript in all formats, in all media and by all means (whether now existing or in future devised)".

The Timeline Publication and its Journals thus acquires an exclusive licence to publish and all practical rights to the manuscript, except the copyright. The copyright of the manuscript remains with the copyright owner. The copyright owner also retains certain rights regarding the sharing and deposition of their article and the re-use of the published material. For short items in journals (news items, etc) we take a non-exclusive licence in the form of a brief 'terms and conditions for acceptance' document.

What is copyright?
Copyright

Copyright is an intellectual property right chiefly concerned with original written works and the typographical arrangement of published works. Copyright owners have the exclusive right to copy their work and to issue copies of their work to the public, and it is an infringement for anyone else to do so without the copyright owner's permission.

Much of what the Timeline Publication and its Journals publishes is work written by third parties (the copyright owner), and it is important that we obtain the proper authority and rights to publish this material. We may do this by obtaining a licence to publish (with the copyright owner retaining copyright), or by taking assignment of copyright to the Timeline Publication and its Journals. We must also ensure that the material we publish does not infringe the copyright of others. The Timeline Publication and its Journals must acquire the legal rights it needs to publish material and the rights it needs to manage and protect the material it publishes.

The Timeline Publication and its Journals must respect the copyright of others, and it must be sure that it has the proper authority to use material that has already been published elsewhere and is owned by someone else (for example, reusing material in our own publications).

Assurances

In the licence to publish, the author provides the assurances

I warrant, on behalf of myself and my co-authors, that:

  • the article is original, has not been formally published in any other journal nor I have not submitted the copyright or any other legal document related to this article and is not under consideration by any other journal and does not infringe any existing copyright or any other third party rights;
  • I am/we are the sole author(s) of the article and have full authority to enter into this agreement and in granting rights to Timeline Publication and its Journals are not in breach of any other obligation;
  • the article contains nothing that is unlawful, libellous, or which would, if published, constitute a breach of contract or of confidence or of commitment given to secrecy;
  • I/we have taken due care to ensure the integrity of the article. To my/our - and currently accepted scientific - knowledge all statements contained in it purporting to be facts are true and any formula or instruction contained in the article will not, if followed accurately, cause any injury, illness or damage to the user.
  • Incase if in future any violation of any copyright come in notice, then the author will be responsible and not the Timeline Publication and its Journals. The undersigned represents that he/she has the power and authority to make and execute this assignment.

In the licence to publish, the author provides the assurances that we need to publish the material, including assurances that the work is original to the author, that the work has not been published already and that permissions have been obtained if previously published material has been included.

If the manuscript includes material that belongs to someone else (for example, a figure or diagram), we require the author to obtain all permissions that may be needed from third parties. If you wish to reuse material that was not published originally by the Timeline Publication and its Journals please see Re-use permission requests.
